Your Questions About Viral Marketing Campaigns 2012

Posted on May 23rd, 2013 in Marketing Blog by admin

Betty asks…

What is your say about the 2012 predictions/movie?

i’m going to be completely honest and say that they should have never made a movie about this. it’s just going to scare people more and give people more of a reason to actually believe that such a thing is going to happen. although i personally don’t believe this prediction, it still kind of freaks me out and it’s a difficult thing to ignore. i think making a 2012 film was the worst idea ever. it wouldn’t have been such a bad idea if there weren’t actual predictions about the world ending in 2012.

admin answers:

There were no predictions, only wild claims made by wackos and frauds. I agree that the movie shouldn’t have been made and they shouldn’t have used their viral marketing campaign pretending it was real in order to scare people into buying tickets.

Steven asks…

Does anyone believe that the world will end on Dec 12, 2012?

I saw this thing on the history channel that the world will end on that date as predicted by Nostradamus and the Mayas and the Egyptions. Any thoughts on this?

admin answers:

The Earth will not end in 2012.

However, there is a viral marketing campaign going around advertising for a movie about the world ending in 2012. You may have seen something from this.

The predictions that the world will end in 2012 come from an interpretation of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. On December 21, 2012, one of their 394-year cycles will end, and another will begin. This will happen again on March 26, 2407.

Since this predicted disaster occurs at the end of one of their cycles, the calendar would probably have had to be designed around that disaster. There is no reason to think anything abnormal will happen on that day because it is very doubtful that the Mayans would know of some forthcoming disaster which modern scientists can’t see coming today.

Nostradamus wrote thousands of poems which are incredibly vague, impossible to translate with certainty, and which can apply to anything. If you want to find a poem to match your interpretation of the Mayan calendar, it shouldn’t be difficult to find a poem that can be bent to fit it somehow.

As for the Egyptians, I haven’t heard anything about their predictions regarding the end of the world, but I wouldn’t trust 2012-believers to teach me about ancient Egypt.

Keep in mind that people have predicted the date of the end of the world countless times already. Every time that date rolls around, they turn out to be wrong. Look at the list of failed predictions at this link, and feel reassured that the world won’t end in 2012.

Daniel asks…

Is the world going to end on 21st Decemeber 2012?

It is really scaring me this whole the world is going to end thing!

admin answers:

No, there is not a shred of evidence for any of the things people say, no truth at all. It is all just stories, and shows how easily human beings can fall for impressive sounding stories.

The Mayans didn’t make any astronomical predictions for this date, also they have dates in their calender way in our future so couldn’t have thought of it as the end of the world either.

The so-called astronomy makes no sense to an astronomer. For instance, yes there is an alignment of the sun with the centre of the galaxy – approximately – but it happens every year at this time. The sun isn’t passing through the galactic plane right now – it did that 3 million years ago and is due to do it next about 30 or 40 million years from now.

There are no planetary alignments at all. There is absolutely no evidence of a mysterious extra planet invading our solar system and any of the hundreds of thousands of amateur astronomers would have easily spotted something like that just by the way it would change the orbits of other planets.

Amateur astronomers are out on every clear starry night around the world, with powerful telescopes – with CCD imaging they are highly sensitive some of them – as powerful as many of the professional telescopes of a couple of decades or so ago. They would immediately notice if any of the planets shifted even slightly from their predicted positions.

If there was a new planet, the effects would be noticed years ago most likely, certainly months ago and by now it would be a huge bright light in the sky, as bright as or brighter than the other planets, and the other planetary orbits would be shifted and the planets would no longer be where the astronomers expect them to be. That is simply not happening.

The stories only work for readers with no or minimal background understanding of astronomy and science

For that matter – why pay any attention to their calender anyway? It is only relevant if you believe in the start date of their calender – which is the date that the Mayans believe that their gods created the world, on 11th August 3114 BC.

Most of this scare dates back to the 2012 movie (released in 2009) which is about as believable as an Indian Jones movie. The marketing department for that film created fictional sites and started a whole viral campaign about the end of the world in 2012. Presumably they didn’t really expect it to be taken seriously (at least I hope so!) – a similar campaign was used to promote Independence Day. The website they created for the campaign, where you could apply for a lottery ticket supposedly for a chance to survive the apocalypse has been taken down now and just redirects to the movie publicity site, thank goodness.

However sadly, their viral campaign was up for long enough to create panic, and many people took it very seriously rather than just entertainment, and got really worried by this movie, with some worried children writing to Nasa saying they were contemplating suicide. That’s when Nasa realised how serious it was getting and put up their debunking website about it..

Here is a nice quote from Dara O-Brien (a UK comedian with a degree in science and an entertainingly pithy way of saying things) about the neutrino mutating part of the story in the movie, which is the key “science” explaining the catastrophe in the actual movie itself:

The concept being that “entire cities tilt and fall into lava” while the only explanation on offer is the single line “the neutrinos have mutated”. The science of this, Ó Briain points out, being equivalent to saying that “the electrons are angry” or “the light from the sun has gone off.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_(film)

There are other things that could potentially be disastrous, but the Mayans couldn’t predict them any more than we can, and they are so low probability that it is highly likely that it will be several million years before they happen, though it is pretty sure that something or other civilization threatening will happen some time in the next few hundred million years or so, and let’s hope that by then we are able to do something about it. Certainly a few billion years from now we would be in deep trouble if we – or rather whatever we or our relatives evolve into – are still around on the Earth as the oceans will boil as the sun gets hotter.

So – there is something in it – astronomically – such things can happen. Just extremely unlikely to happen in the near future. There is enough of a possibility so that it is worth mapping all the NEOs (Near Earth Objects) to see if any are on course to impact Earth.

But – this Dec 21 2012 – it is just a story, all made up stuff, not even a shred of evidence for any of it. Like the game of Telephone or Chinese Whispers, more and more details get added as it gets repeated.

More about it in my longer answer here on quora:

Sharon asks…

So What Do You Guys Really Think About 2012?

They say its the end of the world. Theres even an add running on the myspace homepage saying that the institute of human continuity.will help secure your safety. They actually give u a number to make sure ur safe!! How crazy is that. isn’t this just like what they said about the millenium??

admin answers:

It’s not a real website / group / organization thing. But a lot of people don’t / won’t know that. What it actually is is a viral marketing campaign for Roland Emmerich’s upcoming film ’2012′.

Here’s the link to the IMDb site: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1190080/
Here’s the trailer for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VXa82AuwHU

Want proof?

At the very bottom, click on any of those small links: “Privacy Policy”, “Terms of Service”, or “California Privacy Rights”. There will be a link that takes you to a page run by Sony Pictures saying that the site belongs to them. One more thing, watch the trailer for the movie and notice how the text displayed in the trailer pretty much matches up perfectly with that on the introduction to the website.

Robert asks…

HAVE SIGNED UP FOR THE IHC LOTTERY TO BE SAVED IN 2012?

has anyone logged onto myspace lately and saw the banner on the top of the page? the website looks legit. lol give me feed back! i mean i know the mayans predicted the end of the world in 2012 and they have been pretty precise about predicting other events but i don’t know.

Your Questions About Online Business Bureau

Posted on May 22nd, 2013 in Marketing Blog by admin

Donald asks…

What other online business certifications are there other than the BBB?

I have a client of mine that has an online ecommerce business and is looking for certain online certifications to help build credibility and trust for those looking to do business with him. He’s been online for about 20 years, and is looking for a way to encourage customers to do business with him and feel safe and secure in purchasing his products. Other than the Better Business Bureau, what are other certifications and “stamps of approval” programs that are online that would benefit him?

admin answers:

They can join the Chamber of Commerce in the country/state that they intend to do business in.

Linda asks…

How do I increase customer confidence in my online business?

I run an online business but do not have an 800 number for the time being. I am obviously legit and everything but from time to time i get emails from potential customers who are not sure if i am just another scam site or if I’m real so end up not doing business with me. Is there any way I can add things to my site to verify i am a real business .

admin answers:

You could join the Better Business Bureau and then post this fact on your website.

Daniel asks…

Complain about online businesses simular to Better Business Bureau?

How to you make a complaint about a online only business? Something to the effect of the BBB for online businesses.
How do I complain to the BBB about an online retailer? I couldn’t figure it out.

admin answers:

I think you can complain about online business’ to the BBB. A business is a business, they have to have a site somewhere where they orchestrate everything.

Charles asks…

Is there an online better business bureau?

How can you tell if an online company is legit? Is there a website that is like a better business bureau for internet business?
I forgot to mention that the business is based out of the UK.

admin answers:

Is this what your looking for?

Helen asks…

Has anyone been scammed by Ecommerce Marketing?

Ecommerce Marketing is a company that supposedly handles advertising for people with internet businesses. These people took $3,000.00 from me, promised alot and did not deliver. They will not answer my phone calls or emails.

Any time anyone ever does business with anyone please, please, please check with the Better Business Bureau before you do. And, beware, they do have companies that look like the better business bureau, for example one is called the online business bureau, Not the same thing!! Watch out folks, there are bad people out there!

Your Questions About Affiliate Marketing Training

Posted on May 21st, 2013 in Marketing Blog by admin

Maria asks…

How do some websites rank so high in search engines with such little content?

How does certain websites like this one ranks so high in search engines with such little content http://www.affiliatemarketingtraining.com/ it ranks high for affiliate marketing training

admin answers:

Google uses over 200 factors to determine a website’s rank. However good links from well ranked websites can be a great help.

For example, if you type ‘click here’ into google, the first result is for the Adobe Reader page. Yet if you visit that page you will see that there are no references to the words ‘click here’ on the page! The reason why Adobe is in first position for that phrase is because there are so many websites linking to the Adobe page saying ‘to download Adobe Reader, click here’

Linda asks…

want to get into affiliate marketing are they all scams like click bank?

I am nervous about doing affiliate marketing, I am reading that click bank is a scam, are there honestly lagitamate programs?

admin answers:

Affiliate marketing is not in and of its own, a scam. However there are unfortunately some dishonest people out there who do create affiliate marketing scams. Clickbank is not a scam, however it is the user’s responsibility to research the product and specific affiliate program to make sure it is legitimate. There is always someone who had a bad experience with a product, decides it’s all someone else’s fault and publishes “scam” reviews. In my experience though it is often the person themselves who has made a mistake or has unrealistic expectations to begin with.

When starting out with affiliate marketing, you don’t want to just jump straight in without learning the basics. There is lots of free learning material available, so I would recommend having a good look around at some good training material before starting a site.

You may find the free training material on our site useful as a starting point. You can find it here:

http://www.affilorama.com/lessons

It’s free to register and we find that a lot of beginners find what they’re looking for here.

Good luck! You’re wise to do be asking questions before jumping in… You’ll do really well!

John asks…

Can anyone suggest a work-at-home job that Christians can do?

My wife and I have been talking and it seems she may not be able to go back to work because her multiple sclerosis is really taking a toll on her. What that also means is that I am going to be required to stay home as well because she will need help with herself and our new daughter.

We’re on a fixed income right now which is her disability and with three people in the home, that will not be enough long term. It also means that I cannot invest anything because I don’t have money to invest. I also need something that can be started pretty quickly and doesn’t have a long training time. A couple weeks at most would be best.

I cannot do phone work because I cannot be sure that our apartment will always be quiet, especially with a baby and a dog that both randomly make loud noises…lol. They also tend to have equipment requirements beyond a computer and we don’t have a landline phone, headset, phone that takes a headset and I use my computer wirelessly (it is a desktop.) I am also not great at creative writing, so freelance writing would be out.

The skills that I have come from being an emergency medical technician or a warehouse worker. So not much to be sure. I can repair computers as far as hardware goes, but there is too much competition in this area ( I know because I tried before). I have looked at things that can be built, but it costs money to start something like that. I have even tried to do a pet walking/sitting business, but it went no where.

So I really do not have alot of skills to say the least. No sales skills, or affiliate marketing skills either.

It really needs to be a in-the-home kind of job, so no cutting grass or cleaning houses. I would also like to be able to include my wife so that she feels as though she is contributing in some way
needs to provide income.
Thank you Stimpy!

I am trying to do the right thing and at least still work in some way.
Johnno, I have looked into that before. What I have found is that unless you yourself have lots of items to sell, you need to go to a dropshipper and they cost money, not necessarily for them, but most won’t deal with you until you have a business license.
Iamnoone,

My wife already does have SSDI, medicaid, medicare and we get foodstamps. We have recently moved into an apartment that only costs us $347, so we’re ok there as well.

We would both prefer that it is me that does the in-home care rather then an agency. This is why I asked about in-home jobs. This way I can always be home. I also have a job coach and voc rehab, but they don’t look into at-home jobs. They will not send me back to school because they spent money on two surgeries for me already and they have said no more money is allotted to me for training.

Plus, the at-home job is something that needs to start relatively quick. So going to learn a new skill that would be months away is too long.

Thank you for your response.

admin answers:

First off, my sympathies to your wife. As one who suffers with the sister disease rheumatoid arthritis, I can fully appreciate everything this woman endures. Might I suggest you include her in daily chores and employment endeavors only to the extent she feels capable. There are bound to be many days when simply getting out of bed and dressing in something other than pajamas is an accomplishment in and of itself. To expect any more is unfair, in-light of her illness.

The above paragraph is not intended to be an attack, although it may very well come off as one. My family faces the same difficulties (single, disabled mom with two boys. One in college, one a senior in highschool) and we are living on the same amount as you. Yes, this is hard, but necessary… Your wife surely feels guilt, so please assure her that simply by a wife and mother, she is contributing greatly. Anything else is icing on the cake.

Now, what you need to be doing is scouting the social agencies in your community for assistance. Apply for foodstamps and medicaid at the local public assistance office.

Stop by the office of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to see if you qualify for Section 8 Housing. You may even qualify for an apartment in a low-income unit. This would require relocating, but it will save a lot of money overall.

Stop worrying about investing and concentrate on paying the bills at the moment. You can always invest at a later date. Besides, if your wife is on SSI, you are allowed only $2000 in assets. Once you reach that point, the entitlement diminishes. The rates differ for SSDI, so check into this.

Stop by Community Action for help with groceries and a list of food banks in your area. Also, check with your Community Action Agency so far as job training is concerned. They will have all the answers concerning grants and loans. They may even pay for you to attend evening classes at a local Vocational-Technical school, so that you can learn a trade. The new trade can be done from home or away, because Community Action will also send you to another agency (in my area, it’s Community Resources for Independence) which will help with babysitting, home companions, and housecleaning.

If you run into hurdles here, then check with your local Area Agency on Aging. Depending on your wife’s age, she may be eligible for assistance through their office.

Your local transportation program will take your wife to the necessary doctor and physical therapy appointments.

Your wife may also be eligible for in-home assistance through the VNA. Check into this.

Never stop trying, keeping always in mind that the walls ate there to keep the other person out.

I have utilized all of the above resources, and know what I’m talking about. Good luck to you, and best wishes to your wife.

Sharon asks…

What are some unique ways to find companies that need my services?

other than affiliate marketing, pay per click, or trade shows please.
I am not looking for a job. I am in sales…

admin answers:

Maybe you could join a few of your local small business organizations, and/or offer to speak, or hold a luncheon. Then you could educate business owners about the benefits of SEO. (I am assuming that you are an SEO vendor?)

They will be so thrilled with your training… They will all ask for your contact information!

George asks…

Does affiliate marketing really work?

I am wanting to hear from people who have GENUINELY made money from affiliate marketing. I am looking at getting into it and would like to know how much start up i would need to do this.

admin answers:

It works. I started working online a year and a half ago and now I am making a full-time income with it. The best thing that I could recommend for you would give you your own site, autoresponder, 400-day email campaign and a 30-day training course, for as little as $7.95.

Your Questions About Marketing Objectives And Goals

Posted on May 19th, 2013 in Marketing Blog by admin

Robert asks…

How do advertising objectives relate to a firrm’s overall marketing goal?

What does advertising need to fulfil marketing goals?

admin answers:

Direct-action objectives are measured in terms of results – sales go up, sales leads increase and/or more people try the product for the first time. These may all be the result of advertising – advertising that was developed as a result of direct-action objectives….

Increase awareness
Intensify image
Generate sales leads

Sandy asks…

What are the strategic goals of supply chain management?

What are the strategic goals of supply chain management and how does procurement, transportation, and distribution affect these goals?

admin answers:

Strategic Goals include:

Rapid Order Fulfillment
Efficient Use of Resources
Optimize Manufacturing Mix (Just in Time)
Streamline Distribution
Vehicle Routing and Logistics Analysis

Procurement must purchase the minimum and most economical Order Quantity of materials or subassemblies to produce the product just in time to meet production requirements, while transportation and distribution handle/ship/transport items in the most logistical manner to fulfill the distribution requirements set by the Sellers or the End Users.

This requires the use of the most cost effective measures and negotiation strategies.

Bottlenecks and waste in this process is often eliminated from the process by techniques such as Six Sigma, a type of statistically applied analysis. This type of analysis can be applied to all three areas. Also, market channel distribution is often analyzed to the contribution level.

Objectives: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supply_chain
The primary objective of supply chain management is to fulfill customer demands through the most efficient use of resources, including distribution capacity, inventory and labor. In theory, a supply chain seeks to match demand with supply and do so with the minimal inventory. Various aspects of optimizing the supply chain include liaising with suppliers to eliminate bottlenecks; sourcing strategically to strike a balance between lowest material cost and transportation, implementing JIT (Just In Time) techniques to optimize manufacturing flow; maintaining the right mix and location of factories and warehouses to serve customer markets, and using location/allocation, vehicle routing analysis, dynamic programming and, of course, traditional logistics optimization to maximize the efficiency of the distribution side.

Chris asks…

How can I make my resume objective stand out?

I’ve only written:
To fulfill an internship that will provide me with invaluable experience in the marketing and publicity of feature films.

That’s really boring, and I have no idea how to keep it sounding professional but less formulaic. Basically I want an internship in the marketing department of a film production company of some sort. Any suggestions?

admin answers:

Now I did find the URL below that you can consult.

However, and this is from the hiring point of view (10 years, too many resumes and positions to remember), I don’t pay much attention to objectives. They’re kind of like references to me – flowery and generally don’t add much value. You can add in good terms like hard working, reliable and dependable.

“To take the next step in my career goal by …” You could use that.

But let me say, I have never rejected someone because of a badly written objective, and I’ve never put someone in the “interview” pile because of a well written objective.

William asks…

Explain the different objectives that a firm in an oligopolistic market tries to achieve?

Ib economics student here!

Not asking anyone to write me an essay, this is the first part of my economics essay and I have a general idea about what I’m going to write about but the topics are way to general for me to expand.

Can anyone help me with the topics?

Besides trying to get 100% of market share, maximising profits and putting up barriers to entry, what else does a oligopolistic firm try to achieve?

admin answers:

Maximising profits is one and only goal.

100% of market share and barriers to entry are just the tools to maximize profits

other tools could be reducing costs, improving actual or brand image and increasing customer loyalty or putting up switching costs.

Betty asks…

What are the conditions and goals of the APEC organisation?

Hey, i have a school project and i cant seem to find on the internet the answer to my questions, i need it to be brief. i would really appreciate it if someone helps me out over here. I need to know what are the condition so that a country can join the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation)? what are the primary goals of the APEC? and what is the main reason that lead to the creation of the organisation. i really thank whoever answers me in the quickest way possible. thanx in advance

admin answers:

Decisions on admission of members to APEC require a consensus of all existing members and an Asia-Pacific region location; economic linkages with existing APEC members; market-driven externally oriented economic policies; acceptance of the basic objectives and principles set out in the various APEC declarations, production of an Individual Action Plan.

Trade and Investment Liberalisation, Business Facilitation and Economic and Technical Cooperation are defined in the Bogor Goals, which are the primary goals of APEC.

More effective economic cooperation across the interdependent Pacific Rim region to compete with other world trading blocs was the main reason for the creation of APEC.
